Although our range of off-the-shelf LCD glass is comprehensive your product may need a special display, perhaps with symbols or a text and numerical layout particular to making your product easier to use. Many of our customers find that a custom LCD helps give their product distinctiveness or special ergonomic qualities that make their designs stand out against the competition. Trident can take this service to many levels by providing complete modules, sub assemblies, or even complete product design. With over 2000 completed LCD designs, we have the experience to help you make your product unique. Tooling cost and turnaround time are much lower than customers expect, and we have no minimum order quantity for this service. With any custom design full drawings/specifications are prepared and when approved, prototypes are made. These are evaluated and used to test your electronics design, once approved your custom LCD design goes into mass production.
Custom LCD glass
The process begins with the customer advising their preferred dimensions and segment content. We will then advise on the most cost-effective overall size. This is determined by how many individual displays can be produced from one sheet of mother glass as it passes along the production line and can make a big difference to unit cost. We will advise on the most suitable options for your application, this will depend on parameters such as environment, final production quantity, method of interfacing, and production lifetime. Such issues need to be discussed at an early stage in order to offer the best solution .
All of the LCD technology options are available TN, STN, FSTN, differing polarizer’s and connection methods, and assistance with backlighting and drivers suggestions are all part of out quality service.
Custom Modules
The process begins with the custom Display layout; from here we will look at the interface requirements to the customer’s circuit and suggest suitable options taking into account the short and long-term availability of all components. By its very nature a custom module is a complete tested assembly generally comprising of LCD, driver, backlight and customer interface cable. These components can be interconnected using a variety of standard production techniques such as COB, COG, and TAB assembly. Trident will be on hand to advise the best solution depending on customer requirement and final product volume. Testing of the module will be agreed with the customer to suit the application and any necessary Approvals.
Custom Subassemblies
The process begins by discussing fully with the customer the amount and type of extra components required to be included with the custom assembly. This type of solution is a natural extension of the custom module. The advantage here is that more of the circuitry is included giving the end customer a more modular final product. The most popular extra components to be included are switches as there are required to be on the same front panel as the display. By including these on the display module all the front panel components are at the same level making final assembly and alignment much easier. Switches can take any format including Membrane keypads and Touch screens. Ultimately the customer decides the amount of extra circuitry, and can provide us with a full schematic or merely advise the functionality required and allow us to design and specify the circuitry.
